School Facilities

School Library

We are very proud of our fine school library which is located on the top floor. The library shelves house a wide variety of book genres to cater for all readers’ interests in our school.

School Hall

We are very fortunate to have a multi-purpose hall in our school. The hall is used on a daily basis for P.E. lessons and occasionally for assemblies, meetings, concerts, Céilís and special events.

P.E. Storeroom

The P.E. storeroom is accessed from the school hall. We have amassed a fine store of P.E. equipment over the years which helps to support the roll out of the P.E. curriculum and after-school sports activities.

Book Room

Our book room is located off the halla on the ground floor. Within the room one can find a huge collection of PM readers, Big Cats and big books to support literacy lessons across all levels and classes.

School Yards

Our school building is surrounded by 2 school yards which accommodate our pupils at break times. One yard houses our basketball court and climbing wall. At the far end of the court you can find our junior playground. Our Pre-school and junior classes love to have fun on the playground on occasion.

I-Pads

We are delighted to have a class set of i-pads at our disposal. Use of i-pads can help to enhance lessons as pupil engagement is increased and up-to-date information is accessible to all. I-pads are frequently used for Maths lessons, project work and I.T. skills to name but a few.

Parents’ Room

Our Parents’ room is located just off reception as you enter the school. This room is used on a daily basis for parents’ meetings, cookery, Parents’ Classes, nurse visits etc. It can also be a lovely spot to enjoy a cup of tea and a chat with our HSCL.

Sensory Rooms

St. John’s has 2 sensory rooms which can be found on the ground floor of our school. These rooms can offer a calming space where users can regulate emotions and behaviour and where possible anxiety and overstimulation can be reduced. The rooms can also be used to develop motor and social skills.

EAL Room

Our EAL teachers work with pupils for whom English is not their first language. The EAL room provides an environment where pupils can learn English, develop social skills though fun , engaging activities e.g. play groups
